So I'm sitting at Firestone right now with the Cougar. Salesman is trying to talk me into getting Fuzion Touring tires made by Bridgestone, at $75 a pop. I've never been a fan of Firestone in General but my dad has an account here or whatever and convinced me to just check it out.

I called my friend who works at a tire shop and he said that Fuzions are cheap and decent, and since they are so cheap can be thrashed around without much of a care (big bonus for me). However they are made in China and are injected with Silica and I am just plain skeptical.

Currently the car has BFGoodrich Radial T/As, which are just plain awesome tires. However they are a bit pricey and none of my local shops have them. Any suggestions? My wheels are rather large and can only fit 225 and above. I believe they are 8 inches.

What type of power are you making? How many miles do you drive the car a year?

Whats wrong with silica? silica is good. Also, if you plan on trashing em, get the cheap fuzions, they are going to be way better tires than your suspension was designed for the start (don't know about your suspension mods if any)

I run the Fuzions on my 1800ES. So far so good!

I have Fuzion Touring tires on my Grand Marquis. They're nothing to write home about, but they aren't awful either. So far I've had them for 15k miles and no signs of early wear.

I ran fuzions once on a focus. they were fine, no major issues. they weren't 'top of the line' - but you should know that going in

I could give you some advice, but it would be purely based on random guesswork.

On the tires: you know your thrash factor better than anyone to decide where your nickels are best spent.

On the car, this is my first time seeing your Cougar and I wanted to say I love your car.

I have Firestone Firehawk Wideoval AS tires. I had similar reserves about Firestone as well, but the tires have been fantastic so far. If they last as long as I've been told they should, this set alone will have changed my mind about Firestone as a company.

I have 225/60R18's, maybe you can find a size that fits you car?

For what it's worth, my sister has a set of Fuzion Touring tires on her 09 Mini Cooper, and she hasn't had any complaints. They don't wear as easily as the stock Continentals for sure.

I have some nice BFG All-Terrains and wheels, if you'd like to trade for a Cougar or something...

MAKE SURE THEY USE A TORQUE WRENCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The last time I went to Firestone to get tires put on, they wrenched the lugs on the wheels so tight that I had to take it back to get them broken free. It seriously looked like they had welded the lugs on. My air wrench just wouldn't cut it.

Fusions are cheap and decent but tire wear is shit. I would get Nittos but that's just me.

OK, so no drag radial needed.

Do you have a Costco nearby?

Call up and have them order your BFG radials. There's not a hell of a lot in "performance" 15's plus they are good on price and mounting. If you want BFG DR's for the rear you can do that too.

Silica serves as a low heat buildup reinforcement. Basically it strengthens the rubber just like Carbon Black, but doesn't overheat as easily. Both Silica and Carbon Black are used in tires and manufacturers play with the ratios for certain performance characteristics. Basically, the Silica will help your tires last longer.
